Rapid internet growth and the shift from offline to online across all sectors and demographics has led to exponential growth in demand for network services and data centres. The World Economic Forum estimates the combined global value of digital transformation to society and industry will exceed $100trn by 2025. This growth in digital infrastructure promises opportunity for significant investment in sustainability. Using a green data centre as a case study, this presentation will discuss the opportunities available to investors.

A low yield environment puts pressure on expected returns, increasing the likelihood of underfunding to take place. Today, investments in renewable energy assets continue to deliver positive, low correlated cash yields and attractive long-term returns as institutional investors look for long term, stable, uncorrelated cash flows to match their liabilities. This presentation identifies several barriers for smaller solvency investors to invest in this growing renewables space: access, transaction cost, know-how and tradability and methods for overcoming them.
