The Transition to a Low Carbon Economy

The energy transition is a major agenda item for policymakers and investors alike, with financing it a key piece of the puzzle. Large asset owners mostly stand ready to put their money to work while also seeking to drive change by leveraging their rights and power as shareholders and bondholders. But global energy demand is soaring as heat records are being broken and asset managers pull back from sustainability commitments amid pressure from Republicans in the US.

IPE’s second annual Transition Conference explores the energy transition from the point of view of the new opportunities and risks facing European pension funds as asset managers and businesses navigate rising geopolitical tensions and government policy pivots. Join us for discussions about manager selection, the future of net-zero investing, blended finance breakthroughs, and more, led by some of the world’s most influential thinkers and practitioners.

IPE is able to cover train travel to Brussels and accommodation costs for a limited number of asset owners.

About the IPE Transition Conference & Awards 2025

"IPE is commended for taking up transition to net zero as a thematic area around which to build awards criteria,
considering the urgency and importance of this topic to society," judge's comment

The IPE Transition Conference & Awards is a specialist event for investment decision makers at global pension funds. The global transition to net zero will require an energy revolution and major capital investment. Success will depend on unprecedented co-operation between financial markets, corporates, governments and society as a whole.

As long-term investors tasked with stewarding the retirement wellbeing of millions of people and with trillions in capital, pension funds are critical actors in both funding and supporting this transition.

Stepping away from rhetoric and jargon, the IPE Transition Conference & Awards explores key issues and challenges presented by the transition to a low-carbon economy from an institutional investment, regulation and policy perspective, examining key challenges and opportunities across asset classes in a compelling day-long programme. IPE will also take the opportunity to reward excellence in this area thorough an informal awards presentation ceremony after the conference.
