Deadline Friday 13 March

Comprising six specialist categories, the IPE Transition Awards celebrate pension funds and other institutional investors that are demonstrating real progress in delivering effective transition and net zero strategies. Now in its third year, the awards provide a platform to recognise leadership, innovation and best practice across transition management, investment activity, stewardship, transparency and collaboration—highlighting those driving meaningful change across the investment landscape.

From strategic leadership in energy transition and net zero, to impactful stewardship campaigns and pioneering investments across public and private markets, the awards showcase excellence at every stage of the transition journey. They recognise outstanding contributions from institutions, individuals and initiatives that are embedding transition considerations across asset classes, communicating progress with clarity, and using influence and capital to accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable, net-zero economy.

This award recognises pension funds and institutional investors that demonstrate leadership and innovation in their stewardship approach, using their influence to drive meaningful change in the companies they invest in and the asset managers they employ. While recognising that causal relationships and additionality may be difficult to prove, entries should focus on how stewardship is integrated into investment strategy and deployed to achieve tangible outcomes, including supporting the transition to net zero, improving governance, or promoting sustainable business practices.

Judges will look for entries that demonstrate:

  • A clear, well-defined stewardship strategy, aligned with the pension fund’s long-term objectives and net zero commitments.
  • Evidence of proactive engagement, such as voting, collaborative campaigns, or dialogues with companies and asset managers.
  • How the strategy is structured with measurable targets, transparency, and accountability.
  • Innovation and leadership, showing how the fund goes beyond compliance to influence broader market practices.
  • Outcomes and impact, including examples of how engagement has shaped corporate behaviour, improved ESG performance, or advanced transition objectives.

Entrants should provide concrete evidence of progress, lessons learned, and how stewardship activities contribute to long-term value creation, risk management, and alignment with beneficiaries’ interests. Honest discussion of challenges or setbacks, and how the strategy has adapted, is encouraged.

The Entry Form

This is supported by a seamless online entry form, broken down into five easy-to-navigate parts:

  1. Category and name of the entrant.
  2. Fundamentals, detailing data such as the size of your assets, performance figures and fund structure.
  3. Overview and Investment Strategy, this 350–450 word text area requires a detailed summary of your fund’s history, objectives, and investment strategy. This information helps the judges understand your pension fund or similar institution. Bullet points are allowed, but they should be detailed enough to give judges a clear and comprehensive view of your organization.
  4. Main text, a longer text based area with an optimum range of 750-850 words for your country/regional entry and any themed awards you wish to take part in.
  5. Attachments, to upload your logo and any other supporting attachments such as graphs and performance tables.

The Judges

The judging panel comprises leading investment consultants, academics, and former pension fund executives from around the world, each selected for their knowledge and expertise. Judging follows a two-stage review process across all categories. Judges use IPE’s secure online awards system to review and score submissions, with each panel including at least four judges.
