Joanne Segars OBE is the Chair, non-executive director, Chair of the nominations committee and a member of the remuneration committee of LGPS Central. She became a trustee director of NOW: Pensions in 2017 and its chair in 2019. She is a director of the Pensions Policy Institute and was the Chief Executive of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (formerly the NAPF) from 2006 to 2017 having been its first Policy Director. She was previously Head of Pensions and Savings at the Association of British Insurers and held the pensions brief at the Trades Union Congress from 1988-2001. She started her career as a pensions researcher and journalist at Incomes Data Services. She was a board member of the Environment Agency and chaired its pension funds from 2017-2018, when she was additionally an expert adviser to the CERN pension fund. She was on the board of PensionsEurope from 2010-2017 and its Chair from 2012-2015 and Chair and board member of the Pensions Infrastructure Platform from 2013-2016. Segars has a degree in economics from John Moores University and an MA in industrial relations from the University of Warwick. She received the OBE for services to pensions in 2003.
