Alistair Smith was most recently Head of Real Estate at Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, an FCA Pensions Investment Management company, the current chapter of a 32-year Professional Real Estate Investment, Development and Asset Management career. Under his leadership at Border to Coast he led the structuring, commitment and regulatory approvals and team and supplier operation model required to launched, and now manage, c £2.9Bn of Global (Indirect) and UK (Direct) Core fund propositions. Previously he was Head of Property Investment Management at Aberdeen Standard Investments, Aberdeen Asset Management and Scottish Widows Investment Management (SWIP). He started his career in chartered surveying real estate advisory practice in Scotland and spent a decade advising UK private, corporate and institutional clients before moving client side into private equity real estate. He spent the next 14 years as director responsible for building the real state investment company subsidiary of a significant UK conglomerate with extensive UK bank joint venture and lending relationships. Post GFC he joined SWIP to set up and run their Lloyds Bank Distressed Asset and Fund Workout mandate team latterly expanding to wider management of multiple funds complex assets. His professional real estate and business capability areas cover consultative, private equity, institutional and banking sectors through multiple economic cycles, across all asset types and international markets. His experience further includes significant acquisition & merger, organisational strategy, business process, data and change management and service supplier selection and performance management. Smith graduated BSc Land Economics from Paisley College of Technology and is a senior member and Chair of Professional Competence Assessment Panels for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
