Greg MacKinnon is the Director of Research for the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), a non-profit trade association for the global institutional real estate industry, a position he has held since 2009. His role includes providing the industry with information, research and thought leadership on real estate investment issues. Prior to joining PREA, Greg was professor of finance at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada. His research on real estate investment has been published in the top academic journals, he writes extensively in industry publications, frequently speaks at industry events and has been widely quoted in the media. He has been named a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Institute, a Fellow of the Real Estate Research Institute, is co-editor of the bi-annual special real estate issue of The Journal of Portfolio Management and was previously co-editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management. He sits on the Board of the Real Estate Research Institute, is a member of the Multifamily Impact Council’s Research Advisory Board and is a past Board member of the Atlantic Canada CFA Society. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Alberta and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
