Nils Kok
Professor in Finance and Real Estate, Maastricht University   

Nils Kok is a Professor in Real Estate Finance at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, where he also directs the Maastricht Center for Real Estate. His research interests range from urban economics to institutional real estate investments, with a strong focus on the economics of energy efficiency and sustainability in the real estate sector. Previously, he was a non-executive board member and Chief Economist at GeoPhy, which was sold to Walker & Dunlop in 2022. Nils was also the founder and CEO of GRESB, a global ESG rating company for real estate and infrastructure investments, which was sold to GBCI in 2014 and subsequently sold to Summit Partners in 2021. Kok's research has appeared in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, Review of Economic and Statistics, the RAND Journal and the Journal of Public Economics, and is frequently cited in newspapers and industry publications. Kok received his PhD from Maastricht University (Netherlands) and, after a 4-year stint in Westport, Connecticut, currently lives in Maastricht, the Netherlands, with his wife, Lian, and his three kids.
