Senior Responsible Investment & Governance Manager, APG Asset Management
Derk Welling is Senior Responsible Investment & Governance Manager at APG Asset
Management and the ESG integration lead for the global real estate investments. He is
a member of the GRESB Real Estate Standards Board, the CRREM Investor Committee
and PRI Real Estate Advisory Committee. Until January 2021, he was also a member
of the INREV Sustainability Committee and the initiator and co-founder of the Dutch
Green Building Council, aiming to adapt BREEAM to the Netherlands. Before joining
APG Asset Management, Welling served for 10 years as Head of Sustainability at
REDEVCO, a private retail real estate investment manager, where he developed and
executed the sustainability strategy for the global portfolio and set up the internal and
external corporate responsibility reporting processes. He was member and co-chair
of the ICSC Sustainability committee. Before REDEVCO, he worked at Ballast Nedam,
a Dutch construction firm, where he set up the corporate purchasing department.
He also worked as a consultant with PwC. Welling studied Civil Engineering at the
Delft University of Technology and holds a PhD in Management Science from the
University of Groningen. In 2014 he attended the Oxford Impact Investing program
at Saïd Business School, as well as the Impact Investing program at the Duisenberg
School of Finance. Subsequently he participated in the leadership development
program at IMD Lausanne. He also holds a MSc in Investment Management
(RBA / CEFA) from the VU University Amsterdam.
