Anna Shiel is Head of Origination at Big Society Capital, which she joined in November 2012 as a member of the investment team. Since then she has been involved in a range of investments and projects, with experience in social banks, social property funds and community investment. Following Big Society Capital’s investment into Charity Bank in March 2014, she has been a member of their board. Shiel leads Big Society Capital's work in homes as well as in communities and place, leading a homes team exploring how social investment could be used to create a more inclusive housing market that provides high quality, secure and affordable housing. The communities and place team is involved in efforts to make a difference in disadvantaged communities, looking at how social investment can be used to support business models from community energy generation to those addressing financial exclusion. Shiel was previously a director in Merrill Lynch’s Financial Institutions Group where she advised UK banks and insurers on strategy, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions.
