Markus Smettan is Lead Global Pension Investments at Siemens Energy. He is responsible for the company’s global pension assets and risk management. His responsibilities include asset-liability management (ALM), strategic asset allocation (SAA), manager selection, and the oversight of pension investment risk across defined benefit and defined contribution plans worldwide. He also serves as Deputy Head of Pension Strategy and Projects. He began his career at E.ON Energie, where he gained experience in energy markets and pension liability risk management. Prior to joining Siemens Energy in 2022, he spent 15 years at UniCredit, holding various leadership positions in Market Risk Management. Most recently, he led Market Data and Valuations and was instrumental in advancing the digitalisation and automation of investment and risk management processes across the organisation. He holds a degree in Business Administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) from Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich and is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
