Canada Pension Plan Investment Board
CPP Investments claimed this award for one of the broadest and most consistently argued strategies in the entire entry field, deploying at significant scale across generation, transmission, storage and gas infrastructure under a clearly articulated framework of affordability, security and decarbonisation.

Judges were struck by the intellectual independence of an approach that treats the transition as a whole-system challenge rather than a bet on any single technology. On scale and breadth, few could compete: C$69.9bn in infrastructure and C$38.7bn in Sustainable Energies, spanning utilities, renewables, transmission, storage and LNG. That was backed by a run of transactions completed within the awards period, including the ALLETE take-private, a US$1bn commitment to AlphaGen, the roughly US$10bn Sempra Infrastructure Partners deal alongside KKR, backing for Pattern and Cordelio, and a C$1bn commitment to the Tarchon HVDC interconnector.

Judges saw impressive transactions across sectors and geographies as evidence of a genuinely whole-system strategy rather than a series of opportunistic deals. That combination of coherent framework, independent thinking and demonstrated execution at scale made this the clear Infrastructure Investor of the Year.

Highly Commended
