Partner, ERM
Tom Houghton is Partner at ERM. His role works on what hydrogen and fuel cells can play in future decarbonisation pathways, for which he combines his technical and financial insight. He brings considerable experience gained in industry, finance and academia having held senior roles in companies and universities in the UK and overseas. Houghton worked in academia internationally and held a tenured position with Curtin University in Australia where he led the specialist energy MBA. He is an expert in sustainable energy economics and financing and he has taken a lead role in a number of significant research projects relating to the power and energy sectors. He was previously in the power sector with Alstom, he went on to pursue a career in banking, most recently at Japanese investment bank Nomura, where he was a director in corporate finance. He has a PhD in fuel cell and hydrogen economics.
