Jaap van Dam is the Principal Director of Investment Strategy at PGGM. He is also Chairman of the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO) and the European chapter of the 300 Club. His career in investment management spans more than three decades and his lifelong ambition is to improve institutional investment management by integrating academic insights into practice and by asking academia for help in solving practical investment challenges. Van Dam has performed many roles within the field, ranging from fundamental and quantitative analysis to external manager selection and portfolio construction. He joined PGGM in 2005 as Head of Internal Equity Management. In 2006 he was appointed Chief Strategist. He is a member of UK pensions scheme, NEST’s investment committee, ICPM’s research committee and the international advisory board of EDHEC. Together with professors Kees Koedijk and Alfred Slager, he co-authored the book ‘Achieving Investment Excellence, a practical guide for Trustees of Pension Funds, Endowments and Foundations’. He holds a master’s in Finance from Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
