Alan Rubenstein is Chief Executive and co-founder of The Pension SuperFund, a new commercial collective pension fund for UK defined benefit plans. Previously, he was Chief Executive of the UK’s Pension Protection Fund, the ‘lifeboat’ scheme for schemes with insufficient assets to cover liabilities and distressed sponsors. Under Rubinstein’s direction, the PPF grew from just under £3bn to over £30bn, while the number of members that it protected reached 500,000. Prior to joining the PPF, he was a managing director at Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers, specialising in advising pension funds, corporations and governments on pension financing and management. He began his career as an actuary with Scottish Widows. Rubenstein sits on the boards as non-executive director and chairman of many pensions organisations and association and has been the recipient of many awards, most recently receiving a special lifetime achievement award at the IPE Awards 2017.
