Alfred Slager
Professor Institutional Investments, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Non-Executive Board Member, ABP Pension Fund
Alfred Slager is a Non-Executive Board Member of ABP and Professor of Institutional Investments at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, focusing on investment governance and long-term decision making. Slager has served on investment committees, supervisory boards or board member of pension funds, including SPH, SNS Reaal, PGB, PME and Rail &OV. From 2008, Slager worked as lecturer at the University of Tilburg and from 2011 as professor of Pension Fund Management at TIAS Business School. In earlier roles, he worked as asset manager, researcher and investment strategist. Slager studied Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam where he also obtained his doctorate cum laude in 2004. His research focuses on risk management, investment strategies, and governance of institutional investors. He has co-authored books on investment beliefs with Kees Koedijk, the effectiveness of investment committees, on achieving investment excellence with Kees Koedijk and Jaap van Dam, and on pension board decision making with Martijn Vos.
