Heribert Karch
Former Pension Fund Executive,
Heribert Karch is a former pension fund executive. Karch started his career in 1972 as an engineering draftsman, also becoming a union representative and member of the works council. He studied at the Academy of Labour in Frankfurt and became a union officer. He continued in the education sector of the German Metalworkers’ Union IG Metall where he mainly taught the labour and remuneration policy. Karch was appointed secretary of collective bargaining policy for the metal industry in the newly-created Berlin-Bradenburg-Saxony district in 1990, where he was nominated as Director of the Collective Bargaining Policy Department at the headquarters of IG Metall. He was heavily involved in the conception and foundation process of the pension scheme MetallRente, a joint venture of Gesamtmetall, the German Employers’ Association for the metal and electrical industry and IG Metall. Karch was elected as board member of the German Association for Company Pension Schemes (aba) in 2008 and from 2011until 2019 its chairman. Karch retired at the end of 2021.
