Marlies van Boven is Head of Global Investment Research EMEA at FTSE Russell, London Stock Exchange Group. She joined in 2016, as managing director in the Index Research team, with a key focus to deepen client engagement with key asset owners in the EMEA region, advising clients on the merits of FTSE Russell’s investment strategies and identify opportunities to drive sales. She is a leading subject matter expert in the field of quantitative and sustainable investing, working closely with clients to share her research and macro insights to support portfolio decisions. Author of popular research papers, such as “Do factors carry information of the economic cycle” Part 1 and 2, both CFA accredited. Van Boven was lead lecturer in alternative investments at Warwick Business School and CASS. She oversaw the quantitative research process at Newton and part of the strategy team, supporting the Tactical Asset Allocation Fund. Van Boven was head of quantitative analysis and portfolio management at Barings, responsible for the global investment process, and sole portfolio manager of the Barings Emerging Markets Absolute Return Fund and co-manager of BLUECHIP Multi-Strategy Fund, with colleagues at Babson Capital, MA, USA. She was senior investment consultant at Cambridge Associates’ Middle East & Africa team, with a focus on hedge funds. Van Boven presents at conferences, webinars, and platforms such as Reuters TV. She is chair of London Leverage Events at 100 Women in Finance, member of Inquire UK’s council and Advisory Board member of the Journal of Impact and ESG Investing. She holds a PhD in Finance from Warwick Business School.
