Guy Coughlan

Guy Coughlan an independent adviser with a varied career in pensions and asset management, most recently at the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) where he spent seven and a half years in senior executive roles. He served as a member of the executive committee and its investment management subsidiary, USSIM. He was USS’s first Chief Risk Officer, credited with setting up its risk management framework. He then assumed the role of Valuation Programme Executive, running the strategically important 2020 actuarial valuation that was completed earlier this year. His final position at USS was as Senior Strategic Advisor, Risk and Investment. Coughlan was also Chief Risk and Analytics Officer at a US pension fiduciary manager and previously spent 17 years at JP Morgan as a managing director in several senior global, US and European roles, finishing as Co-Head of the European Pension Advisory Group.
